Flow states theory postulates that one can enter a special way of feeling or experiencing a spontaneous flow and mindless awareness of a skill set that is well-practiced and developed. One example is an Olympic gymnast doing her floor routine flawlessly and almost without seeming effort. She does not think about each step and maneuver. She only flows from one moment to another with grace and perfection. As long as she is in the flow state, she can finish with perfection. If she becomes mentally or physically distracted, it interrupts the flow state and she falls or misses her landing.
